Zooming In – Quest For You 600

Celebrating 600 episodes coincides with the end of an epic year and I want to take to opportunity to invite you to reflect together with me. I want to help you see that this year may have not been the most productive, as you have witnesses with the irregularity of my last 100 episodes, but that doesn’t mean it was a waste. Lets zoom in on it and find meaning.

The moments bigger than us – Quest For You 598

The moments bigger than us – Quest For You 598

The moments that are bigger than us tend to lead us into many directions – hiding, frantically searching for answers, or we feel overwhelmed. I have found that such moments, of which we have many this year, are meant to lead us back to ourselves. They require reflection and contemplation as it is often in that quiet time with ourselves that we get to the insights we need to move forward.

We need civility – Quest For You 597

We need civility – Quest For You 597

Its election week and I am less concerned about who wins, and more about what our reaction as a country will be to the incoming president. The word civility has been on my mind lately and this week is a good time to remind ourselves that we cannot afford to forget about it. Being polite may not always be easy, but its the more effective and productive way to deal with issues we don’t agree with and to treat people that are different from us.

My silence – Quest For You 596

My silence – Quest For You 596

I have been silent for a few weeks with this podcast and this episode is an attempt to explain my reasons. And while there are many potential explanations – the bottom line is this – I haven’t gotten it done. And while I am tempted to blame 2020 with all its newness and not-normalness, I have also have to be honest with myself. I had ideas, but they haven’t turned into action. This episode may resonate with many of you as I am certain we all in stuck in some areas of our life. And to get unstuck, we just need to take one small step. This episode is my first step.

Getting up earlier has been one of my most significant changes that I have made. It has not only brought me more time in my day, but it sets a different tone for my days. Instead of …

We like things that are easy. We try to avoid as much pain as we can. We want to pull through and get it over with.  However, some of our biggest accomplishments in life have come from doing hard things.

I learned to smile more when I came to this country. And while I initially had to force myself to smile, I now notice all the amazing positive side effects that smiling brings.

Start every day with intention and direction

Does it seem challenging to find an inner connection with ourselves? Our world can be noisy, overwhelming and distracting.

Yet, the direction for our life comes from within us.

The Quest For You Podcast is my mission to help you discover who you are. I will help you challenge yourself through daily guidance, motivation and inspiration. I want to help you find your direction.

Importance of Mornings – Quest For You 003

Looking for a quote from my show notes?

QFY – Episode 3

  1. Buenos Dias and Good morning. This is YOUR day.
  2. Intro
  • My name is Janine.
  • And this is Quest for You – my mission to help you explore possibilities in life you didn’t think were possible

Lets talk about mornings

  • So why the morning? Why do I recommend you listen to this podcast in the morning?
  • You see – I was a runner for many years.
  • In my younger years.
  • When I was still unsure about life. With a busy social agenda, a new career, and other than my job, I did not have any major routines in my life.
  • So I started running. And I wanted to run daily.
  • So I started with afternoon running. But I realized – it was hard. Especially after coming home from a long day at work, or after happy hour …
  • I constantly felt that I wasn’t 100% in control of my afternoons.
  • That’s when I started to run in the morning – yes – that was hard to. It was uncomfortable. But only at first.
  • There was this sentence that came to me back then and is always stuck with me:
  • Nobody can take the morning from you.
  • It was this sentence that drove me to get up morning after morning and run.
  • I felt in control.
  • I realize that this is not entirely the case. If you go to bed late then running in the morning is equally hard. So you still have to control it in some way.
  • But back then – it helped me. I became a runner, a morning runner. Early morning. Out of bed and into my shoes. And out the door. As early as 4.30am.
  • Running became my first major routine that I kept up for over 10 years.
  • Until injuries and a concerned physician told me to stop.
  • I found it easiest to be disciplined first thing in the morning
  • You don’t have to battle with anyone or anything. You don’t have to say NO to anything. All you have to do is set your alarm a little earlier and get up. Only ONE THING TO DO. One thing only.
  • Whereas – in the evening – so many things to battle: traffic, saying no to invitations, avoiding distractions, being motivated enough, and so on
  • The morning was fresh and new and ready for me.

  • I still work out daily, but now its in the evenings.
  • I have a different morning routine. In fact – I have many routines.
  • But this commitment to start running in the morning many years ago is what I attribute to my success of being able to stay disciplined with my goals. It helped me.
  • I don’t know what your mornings look like.
  • But if you struggle to get things done that YOU want to get done,
  • if you cannot get some of the bucket list items accomplished because you are constantly out of time …
  • if you are always a tad behind, reactive, 5min late, out of breath, forgetting a few details such as saying thank you or looking at the person at the cash register,
  • … then starting with QFY podcast every morning will help you.
  • If you are consistent about it, and given you enjoy it, (I hope you do) then you are unconsciously establishing a routine.

  • Why is having a routine so important?
  • I know that for most of my younger years I felt routines were restricting me, limiting my freedom and my creativity
  • Today I find routines liberating because I have to think and plan less
  • The things that are important to me – I try to turn them into a routine. That way they get done.
  • If I leave them up to my willpower – there will be a battle every day and that just costs to much energy

  • By starting with something small like this podcast, you are training.
  • You are training your mind and your body to stick to something you really WANT to do …
  • This will help you in the long run, when you want to start other projects, that are slightly riskier and possibly more time-consuming.
  • Whatever your goals are
    • maybe you want to start running or exercising in some way.
    • Read or write more
    • Learn a new skill or start a new hobby
    • Maybe even start a side gig to generate some more income
  • There are people that have visions and they go out and pursue them like there is no tomorrow
  • But for the larger majority of us, I would guess, we struggle more – we hesitate, we think, we overthink, we procrastinate, we lose focus, we talk ourselves out of it, and we make a million excuses
  • We need to start small

  • This is why I designed QFY to become part of your routine.
  • So you can start a routine.
  • That is why I record daily episodes.
  • Remember –small steps every day, taken consistently, will lead to the accomplishment of big goals.
  • The key word is consistent.

I want to end this podcast today by giving you a task.

Think about your life and the things you really WANT to do but have not gotten around to. And ask yourself – what are you doing about it? How could you make time for something that would make you happy, better, more fulfilled?

I will give you a list of 12 priorities that John Maxwell uses. Please write them down and think about them. Which one of these, just pick one, speaks to you? Which one calls out to you as an area that is important to you and that you are currently not dedicating the right amount of time to in a consistent manner.

Here you go:

  1. Attitude:I will display the right outlookdaily.
    2. Priorities: I will act on the things most important to me daily.
    3. Health: I will follow healthy guidelines daily.
    4. Family: I will communicate with and care for my loved ones daily.
    5. Thinking: I will practice good thoughts daily.
    6. Commitment: I will make and keep proper promises daily.
    7. Finances: I will properly manage dollars daily.
    8. Faith: I will deepen and live out my faith daily.
    9. Relationships: I will initiate and invest in solid relationships daily.
    10. Generosity: I will model kindness daily.
    11. Values: I will embrace good standards daily.
    12. Growth: I will seek improvements daily.
