Giving feedback is just as hard as receiving feedback. Sadly, with 24/7 access to anyone everywhere, we have become less careful with feedback. I believe that we need to take the time to face the person that needs our feedback, or at least speak to them over the phone. So much of what we say is in the way we say it and technology robs us of all the extras such as tone of voice, gestures, and facial expressions. 

Giving feedback can be scary but it will help us become a better communicator if we do it often. As we see their reactions to our words, we learn to fine-tune our message and the delivery.

Its election week and I am less concerned about who wins, and more about what our reaction as a country will be to the incoming president. The word civility has been on my mind lately and this week is a good time to remind ourselves that we cannot afford to forget about it. Being polite may not always be easy, but its the more effective and productive way to deal with issues we don’t agree with and to treat people that are different from us.

And while there are many potential explanations – the bottom line is this – I haven’t gotten it done.
