Big goals can appear overwhelming, and even more so when we don’t have clear direction. In this episode I encourage you to start anyway. Take small steps forward, even if you do not have a clear plan.

Zooming In – Quest For You 600

Celebrating 600 episodes coincides with the end of an epic year and I want to take to opportunity to invite you to reflect together with me. I want to help you see that this year may have not been the most productive, as you have witnesses with the irregularity of my last 100 episodes, but that doesn’t mean it was a waste. Lets zoom in on it and find meaning.

The moments bigger than us – Quest For You 598

The moments bigger than us – Quest For You 598

The moments that are bigger than us tend to lead us into many directions – hiding, frantically searching for answers, or we feel overwhelmed. I have found that such moments, of which we have many this year, are meant to lead us back to ourselves. They require reflection and contemplation as it is often in that quiet time with ourselves that we get to the insights we need to move forward.

We need civility – Quest For You 597

We need civility – Quest For You 597

Its election week and I am less concerned about who wins, and more about what our reaction as a country will be to the incoming president. The word civility has been on my mind lately and this week is a good time to remind ourselves that we cannot afford to forget about it. Being polite may not always be easy, but its the more effective and productive way to deal with issues we don’t agree with and to treat people that are different from us.

My silence – Quest For You 596

My silence – Quest For You 596

I have been silent for a few weeks with this podcast and this episode is an attempt to explain my reasons. And while there are many potential explanations – the bottom line is this – I haven’t gotten it done. And while I am tempted to blame 2020 with all its newness and not-normalness, I have also have to be honest with myself. I had ideas, but they haven’t turned into action. This episode may resonate with many of you as I am certain we all in stuck in some areas of our life. And to get unstuck, we just need to take one small step. This episode is my first step.

Getting up earlier has been one of my most significant changes that I have made. It has not only brought me more time in my day, but it sets a different tone for my days. Instead of …

We like things that are easy. We try to avoid as much pain as we can. We want to pull through and get it over with.  However, some of our biggest accomplishments in life have come from doing hard things.

I learned to smile more when I came to this country. And while I initially had to force myself to smile, I now notice all the amazing positive side effects that smiling brings.

Start every day with intention and direction

Does it seem challenging to find an inner connection with ourselves? Our world can be noisy, overwhelming and distracting.

Yet, the direction for our life comes from within us.

The Quest For You Podcast is my mission to help you discover who you are. I will help you challenge yourself through daily guidance, motivation and inspiration. I want to help you find your direction.

Show Notes for

Just show up – Quest For You 004

Looking for a quote from my show notes?
  • Good morning wonderful people.
  • Here is Janine with episode number 4 of Quest for you where my mission is to help you move into change and towards greatness.
  • You are here –I am so happy
  • You know its all about showing up.
  • We talked yesterday about making this podcast part of your morning routine
  • Establishing and following routine is showing up.
    • You show up for yourself. For your goals. For what matters.
    • By doing so you are taking active steps towards becoming a better You
  • Too often we don’t do anything – why?
    • Because the task seems to big and overwhelming
    • In the beginning we cannot envision how it will ever materialize – we see the end but we cannot see the 150 steps in between
    • It seems to huge an undertaking – not enough time, money, other resources, support, etc.
    • We don’t know what will happen next
    • Its like this rollercoaster ride that simply looks to scary until you try it and then wonder what took you so long.
  • And what happens when we do nothing?
    • Our dreams stay dreams
    • We stay in relationships, in jobs, in neighborhoods, that are not good for us. Just because we cannot see a way out. Too complicated. To messy.
    • We don’t utilize our full potential.
    • And we never really find out what our full potential could be
    • And in the end – we are chased by regrets.
  • Isn’t it amazing how much pain we are willing to suffer long term just so we can avoid some short term unknowingness and unease?
  • I agree – change is hard. But every time I have done it – I always looked back wondering “why didn’t I do this sooner”
  • But we have blinders on. We only see the situation we are in. its normal. Its difficult to predict what will happen when we try something new. The old – we already know what will happen so its comfortable.
  • The key is to start something.
  • To take some kind of small action. Even if the action is not 100% related in that you cannot see how it will get you to your end goal.
  • So an example of this:
    • You have a burning to live and work overseas. Leave your country and start somewhere new.
    • But you have no idea of how to even initiate something like this. Your don’t have a job that could potentially transfer you. You don’t have any friends or relative overseas. All in all – it looks bleak and all you really have is the desire.
  • Without knowing where you will land – you could still do something. You could learn a language for example. One that you always wanted to learn. You could travel and get to know other countries.
  • The language course itself is not getting you anywhere closer to a job overseas, but you are taking action.
  • In the absence of a well-laid out plan, action always trumps inaction.
  • And even if that class doesn’t get you anywhere, you have not lost anything by learning something new.
  • But most likely – what happens is this: you are now a tiny step closer. And guess what? Step 2 will unfold. Maybe even step 3-10 will all unfold.
  • Why? How? You are closer to your goal. You are more intimate with it. Your eyes are open just a bit wider.
  • And this will continue to happen.
  • Just like when you are looking at buying a certain model car. Before, you never noticed this car much. Suddenly you see it everywhere.
  • So it could go like this – you meet a new friend in that class and she has already a job secured, she is just getting the language squared away. But she will help you as you along the way as you grow in your friendship.
  • Or it could be harder – nothing is clear and you have to continue searching and taking small steps.

  • This is how I view this podcast:
    • You are taking action by opening your heart and your mind to be inspired
    • You are seeking answers and by showing up regularly, they will come
    • You are learning consistency
    • You are making yourself just a tiny bit uncomfortable by spending this time and maybe even trying some of the tips and ideas suggested here
  • Not everything is always clear right from the start.
  • Just show up.
  • That’s my encouragement today.
  • Show up here, regularly.
  • And start thinking about the things that ignite your heart.
    • More time with your children?
    • Reading and maybe writing poetry?
    • Watching the sunset with a cup of tea?
  • Do it.
  • So – my motivation for you today is:
  • Show up to the things that matter.
  • Your job – you get paid so you show up.
  • But what matters to you? What is close to your heart? What are you burning for?
  • What requires change in your life so you can smile again, breathe deeply and dance in the rain?
  • What sparks your curiosity? What interests you? What is something you always wanted to do?

Call to Action:

  • I would love it if you write me via my website QFY.com and share your answers with me,
  • I would like to share some of them on an upcoming podcast.
  • Your dreams and goals will give aspirations to others.
  • You see sometimes when we have to go through something, especially something difficult, we think we are the only ones. All we see is happy people that already have what we still need to accomplish.
  • I want to motivate you to start change in your life.
  • So share with me and if you’d like, let me know what is holding you back.
  • Maybe I can offer some help, maybe I can address these obstacles in upcoming episodes.

“When we’re determined to reach an objective, it’s the gap between where we are and where we aspire to be that lights a fire under us.”
