Episode Summary

My main question today is this: Are you a giver or a taker?

Consider giving up trying to take form others. It not only hurts them, but also yourself.

Instead, become a giver by lifting others up, even when you feel down. You will notice that you not only make others happy, but it also brings happiness for your life.

Zooming In – Quest For You 600

Celebrating 600 episodes coincides with the end of an epic year and I want to take to opportunity to invite you to reflect together with me. I want to help you see that this year may have not been the most productive, as you have witnesses with the irregularity of my last 100 episodes, but that doesn’t mean it was a waste. Lets zoom in on it and find meaning.

The moments bigger than us – Quest For You 598

The moments bigger than us – Quest For You 598

The moments that are bigger than us tend to lead us into many directions – hiding, frantically searching for answers, or we feel overwhelmed. I have found that such moments, of which we have many this year, are meant to lead us back to ourselves. They require reflection and contemplation as it is often in that quiet time with ourselves that we get to the insights we need to move forward.

We need civility – Quest For You 597

We need civility – Quest For You 597

Its election week and I am less concerned about who wins, and more about what our reaction as a country will be to the incoming president. The word civility has been on my mind lately and this week is a good time to remind ourselves that we cannot afford to forget about it. Being polite may not always be easy, but its the more effective and productive way to deal with issues we don’t agree with and to treat people that are different from us.

My silence – Quest For You 596

My silence – Quest For You 596

I have been silent for a few weeks with this podcast and this episode is an attempt to explain my reasons. And while there are many potential explanations – the bottom line is this – I haven’t gotten it done. And while I am tempted to blame 2020 with all its newness and not-normalness, I have also have to be honest with myself. I had ideas, but they haven’t turned into action. This episode may resonate with many of you as I am certain we all in stuck in some areas of our life. And to get unstuck, we just need to take one small step. This episode is my first step.

Getting up earlier has been one of my most significant changes that I have made. It has not only brought me more time in my day, but it sets a different tone for my days. Instead of …

We like things that are easy. We try to avoid as much pain as we can. We want to pull through and get it over with.  However, some of our biggest accomplishments in life have come from doing hard things.

I learned to smile more when I came to this country. And while I initially had to force myself to smile, I now notice all the amazing positive side effects that smiling brings.

Start every day with intention and direction

Does it seem challenging to find an inner connection with ourselves? Our world can be noisy, overwhelming and distracting.

Yet, the direction for our life comes from within us.

The Quest For You Podcast is my mission to help you discover who you are. I will help you challenge yourself through daily guidance, motivation and inspiration. I want to help you find your direction.

Show Notes for

Willing to give – Quest For You 053

Looking for a quote from my show notes?

Episode 53 – willing to give

  • Are you a giver or a taker
  • Today I want to you to seriously consider this:
  • Are you taking from others – or are you giving to them
  • Are you taking
    • By dishing out harsh words and criticism
    • Unkindness, meanness
    • Are you purposely looking for ways to hurt others
    • trying to teach someone a lesson
    • bringing your negative energy to other peoples lifes
  • are your intentions to take something from others
  • by bringing them down, are you:
    • darkening their good mood, their uplifting spirits
    • ruining their day
    • hurting their outlook on life
    • destroying relationships
  • if you do so sometimes – ask yourself WHY
  • what are your intentions
  • and where is this coming from?
  • Are you unhappy yourself and cannot stand seeing others happy?
  • Are you trying to control others to make them think or behave in a way you deem right?
  • What are you trying to accomplish?
  • Next time you catch yourself TAKING – try to dig deep and search for your motive
  • There is one, believe me
  • There is a knot inside of you, an anxiousness, a fear
  • There is something that’s calling and you are trying to answer
  • You just have not yet learned the proper answer
  • Remember – the easy answer is usually the negative one
  • It gives us a temporary satisfaction
  • It feels good to dish out, unload, spray that anger and that hurt
  • It relieves us of this inner calling, this pain or fear
  • For a moment
  • But it’s the wrong approach
  • it doesn’t bring you any further, and it holds others up from their progress
  • you are taking
  • from yourself and from others

  • Today I would like to ask you to become a giver
  • Not a giver of things, or money or time
  • But a giver of your heart
  • Of the things that are in your heart
  • To do so, you have to Open your heart and find what you can share
  • So what do I mean with giving?
  • I mean giving instead of taking
  • Just think the opposite
  • Instead of bringing others down, build them up
  • Our words are so powerful
  • Use them wisely
  • Think about your choice of words – your vocabulary, the tone of your voice, and most of all, the intentions behind them
  • Use words that are
    • Positive
    • Uplifting
    • Inspiring
    • Motivating
    • Solution-focused, not problem-loaded
  • Does this sound challenging?
  • It sure does and it is
  • At first you probably cannot even think of a lot of words that would fall into these categories
  • Its normal because we hardly use such words
  • So it will take time and practice
  • But its worth it
  • The world, the people in this world, your friends and the strangers you meet every day – they need giving
  • Everyone needs a giving person
  • A smile is the easiest way to give
  • An uplifting gesture
  • And then you have your words
  • So again:
  • Next time you are inclined to take away from someone’s happiness, think about a way to give to their life
    • When someone has hurt you, don’t hurt back – give them something positive instead so they can learn to be better next time
    • When the circumstances don’t play in your favor, don’t get upset and angry – contribute with something that makes the situation better
    • When you feel down and discouraged, don’t talk negatively to yourself – find a way to bring yourself back up

  • The goodness in this world starts with you
  • The negativity in this world stops with you
  • That’s how powerful you are
  • Use your power
  • Use the power and influence with your thoughts, your words and your actions
  • Give to others
  • Extend your grace
  • Build others up
  • And What you give is what’s going to come back at you
  • when you give to others, you are also giving to yourself
  • building others up, builds yourself up
  • What you say affects you and others
  • I call it a double-whammy
  • You can not only make someone else happy with kind words and actions, but also yourself
  • I am sure you have felt this before
  • This feeling of having said or done something positive
  • And the more of an effort it was for you the better it felt
    • The email you re-wrote a few times unit it sounded less emotional and more professional
    • The time you didn’t text or call right back but thought about your response first
    • The polite answer to the rude person
    • The smile to the angry stranger
  • All these are giving responses that – in the end – make the world a better place
  • Start today:
  • Focus less on receiving, and more on giving
  • Become a giver and stop being a taker

It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.”
