Easter Appreciations – QFY 424

I spent Easter Sunday alone in a beautiful house with a blooming garden. And this made me feel grateful for all the wonderful people I have in my life and everything they teach me. This episode is a list of appreciations. Maybe you find them applicable to the people in your life.

Sometimes its just a good idea to bring to our mind what each and everyone contributes to our lives.

Zooming In – Quest For You 600

Celebrating 600 episodes coincides with the end of an epic year and I want to take to opportunity to invite you to reflect together with me. I want to help you see that this year may have not been the most productive, as you have witnesses with the irregularity of my last 100 episodes, but that doesn’t mean it was a waste. Lets zoom in on it and find meaning.

The moments bigger than us – Quest For You 598

The moments bigger than us – Quest For You 598

The moments that are bigger than us tend to lead us into many directions – hiding, frantically searching for answers, or we feel overwhelmed. I have found that such moments, of which we have many this year, are meant to lead us back to ourselves. They require reflection and contemplation as it is often in that quiet time with ourselves that we get to the insights we need to move forward.

We need civility – Quest For You 597

We need civility – Quest For You 597

Its election week and I am less concerned about who wins, and more about what our reaction as a country will be to the incoming president. The word civility has been on my mind lately and this week is a good time to remind ourselves that we cannot afford to forget about it. Being polite may not always be easy, but its the more effective and productive way to deal with issues we don’t agree with and to treat people that are different from us.

My silence – Quest For You 596

My silence – Quest For You 596

I have been silent for a few weeks with this podcast and this episode is an attempt to explain my reasons. And while there are many potential explanations – the bottom line is this – I haven’t gotten it done. And while I am tempted to blame 2020 with all its newness and not-normalness, I have also have to be honest with myself. I had ideas, but they haven’t turned into action. This episode may resonate with many of you as I am certain we all in stuck in some areas of our life. And to get unstuck, we just need to take one small step. This episode is my first step.

Getting up earlier has been one of my most significant changes that I have made. It has not only brought me more time in my day, but it sets a different tone for my days. Instead of …

We like things that are easy. We try to avoid as much pain as we can. We want to pull through and get it over with.  However, some of our biggest accomplishments in life have come from doing hard things.

I learned to smile more when I came to this country. And while I initially had to force myself to smile, I now notice all the amazing positive side effects that smiling brings.

Start every day with intention and direction

Does it seem challenging to find an inner connection with ourselves? Our world can be noisy, overwhelming and distracting.

Yet, the direction for our life comes from within us.

The Quest For You Podcast is my mission to help you discover who you are. I will help you challenge yourself through daily guidance, motivation and inspiration. I want to help you find your direction.

Episode 424 – Easter Appreciations

  • My friends
  • Welcome to another episode
  • I am sitting here on Easter Sunday at a friends house
  • The door to garden is open, sunlight and slightly chilly California morning air is coming in
    • Not cold enough to run for a sweater
    • Just cool enough to keep me alert and my mind fresh and focused
  • Bees are buzzing around the flowers outside
  • A lonely fly lost inside the house
  • The sun shines through the leaves of the trees – making them appear bright green and vibrant
  • Next to me my beloved coffee that I brewed myself today
  • A quiet and relaxing morning
  • Nowhere to go at the moment,
  • All I need to do is be here, be with myself
  • I feel my muscles sore and my fingertips slightly burning from yesterdays climb
  • And as I look out into the garden, admiring the spring flower and the bloom – I am thinking about Easter
  • Lots of people, maybe even you – are celebrating it today in your tradition – whatever it may be
  • I know my friend and owner of this beautiful house here in Berkeley is celebrating Passover with her family on the east coast
  • And here I am wondering about the meaning of Easter for me
  • As a child I spent it hunting for Easter eggs in my grandmothers beautiful garden
  • Today Easter is whatever I decide it to be
  • This holiday falls into the beautiful season of spring and therefore represents for me much the same of what I already shared with you
    • Renewal
    • Hope
    • A new start
    • A blooming and flowering and a moving forward into new things
  • As I am looking out into nature that mirrors all my feelings I cannot help myself but smile and be thankful for all the wonderful people in my life
  • In this podcast I speak a lot about our journey, our quest for our best life
  • That is often a lonely quest as it requires a lot of inner work
    • Silence
    • Thinking
    • Alone time
    • Reading
    • Contemplating
  • But, it is also time that readies us so we can be our best when we are with others
  • And a lot of our time is spent in the company of others
  • Yesterday I went climbing with a wonderful group of people – some I knew, some I met for the first time
  • Today I am here in my friends house alone
  • Being with others requires a lot of energy from me –
    • All the time I am thinking of my words, my actions, and my expressions while at the same time absorbing those of the others
  • Alone time is my recharge time
  • Its only me by myself
  • Allowing me to reconsider who I was yesterday and correct and improve who I want to be today
  • Spring and Easter remind me of this renewal and rebirth
  • Everything around me is in a process of becoming
  • Me and my life are constantly becoming
  • And the people in my life help me with that
  • They are my feedback
  • Their energy, their words, their actions allow me to reflect on me
  • So today – on this Easter Sunday – surrounded by complete beauty and stillness – I want to give thanks to the people in my life because they help me become a better Janine
  • They are my Easter – my hope, my renewal, my second chance to do a better job tomorrow with how I show up
  • I have names for every single person but I will not name them here because I don’t want to make this about me and the people in my life
  • Rather
  • I would like you to insert the names of the people in your life that may help you with something similar
  • Every person in my life, whether it’s a close friend, a gym buddy, a former partner, an old acquaintance, a teacher, or a someone I only see once a year, they all help me with something important that I still need to work on
  • That is why they are part of my journey
  • That is why the people in your life are part of your quest for you
  • Lets recognize them today for their contributions – small and large, subtle and direct, deliberate and unintended
  • Because during our mostly hectic days – we often don’t recognize their value
  • We are to stressed to think about their impact on our lives
  • We are to consumed with our own needs to see how they push us forward
  • Today – on this quiet Easter Sunday – I want to pause and thank the amazing human beings I have the pleasure of sharing a part of my journey with
  • And for everything they teach me
  • And while you will listen to this episode when Easter is already over, you can do this on any given day
  • It doesn’t require a holiday to recognize and be grateful for the people in our life
  • I – today – want to thank each person in my life for the things they teach me:
    • To be more genuine and kind
    • To not react to everything right away but think about my words first
    • To interpret their messages in a positive way and then respond in a positive way
    • To check in with myself before I accept their invitations
    • To reflect on my values and my priorities more often
    • To not question their motives – only my own
    • To Be ok with silence
    • To listen when they speak
    • To defend myself less and acknowledge them more
    • To hear more with my heart and less with my brain
    • To respond more from my heart and less from my brain
    • To not expect them to say or do something specific but to simply thank them for their contribution – even if its hard to accept
    • To ask for clarification when I don’t know what their messages mean
    • To reach out more frequently and not always wait on them to reach out
    • To be more generous with my time when they need some of it
  • I thank them
    • For their patience with me
    • For their calm when I am stressed
    • For their balance when I am unstable
    • For their encouragement when I only see dark
    • For their courage to approach me even when I make it difficult for them
    • For their push even when its harsh
    • For their honesty especially when I don’t want to hear it – because that when I need to hear it
    • For their loyalty even when I have been absent and away
    • For their support even when I am not there for them when they need me
    • For their help anytime I need
  • I thank them for what they see in me, which is often so much more than I see myself
  • And For their love which teaches me to love more

I hope you can find something in common with the people in your life

Give them a silent thank you today for being in your life and part of your quest

Much love
