Zooming In – Quest For You 600

Celebrating 600 episodes coincides with the end of an epic year and I want to take to opportunity to invite you to reflect together with me. I want to help you see that this year may have not been the most productive, as you have witnesses with the irregularity of my last 100 episodes, but that doesn’t mean it was a waste. Lets zoom in on it and find meaning.

The moments bigger than us – Quest For You 598

The moments bigger than us – Quest For You 598

The moments that are bigger than us tend to lead us into many directions – hiding, frantically searching for answers, or we feel overwhelmed. I have found that such moments, of which we have many this year, are meant to lead us back to ourselves. They require reflection and contemplation as it is often in that quiet time with ourselves that we get to the insights we need to move forward.

We need civility – Quest For You 597

We need civility – Quest For You 597

Its election week and I am less concerned about who wins, and more about what our reaction as a country will be to the incoming president. The word civility has been on my mind lately and this week is a good time to remind ourselves that we cannot afford to forget about it. Being polite may not always be easy, but its the more effective and productive way to deal with issues we don’t agree with and to treat people that are different from us.

My silence – Quest For You 596

My silence – Quest For You 596

I have been silent for a few weeks with this podcast and this episode is an attempt to explain my reasons. And while there are many potential explanations – the bottom line is this – I haven’t gotten it done. And while I am tempted to blame 2020 with all its newness and not-normalness, I have also have to be honest with myself. I had ideas, but they haven’t turned into action. This episode may resonate with many of you as I am certain we all in stuck in some areas of our life. And to get unstuck, we just need to take one small step. This episode is my first step.

Getting up earlier has been one of my most significant changes that I have made. It has not only brought me more time in my day, but it sets a different tone for my days. Instead of …

We like things that are easy. We try to avoid as much pain as we can. We want to pull through and get it over with.  However, some of our biggest accomplishments in life have come from doing hard things.

I learned to smile more when I came to this country. And while I initially had to force myself to smile, I now notice all the amazing positive side effects that smiling brings.

Start every day with intention and direction

Does it seem challenging to find an inner connection with ourselves? Our world can be noisy, overwhelming and distracting.

Yet, the direction for our life comes from within us.

The Quest For You Podcast is my mission to help you discover who you are. I will help you challenge yourself through daily guidance, motivation and inspiration. I want to help you find your direction.

Episode 497 – The more you give

Episode 497

  • I want to read you a quote by Warren Buffet that I read the other day
  • He is currently the second richest person on the planet:

“Basically, when you get to my age, you’ll really measure your success in life by how many of the people you want to have love you actually do love you. I know many people who have a lot of money, and they get testimonial dinners and they get hospital wings named after them. But the truth is that nobody in the world loves them.

“That’s the ultimate test of how you have lived your life. The trouble with love is that you can’t buy it. You can buy sex. You can buy testimonial dinners. But the only way to get love is to be lovable. It’s very irritating if you have a lot of money. You’d like to think you could write a check: I’ll buy a million dollars’ worth of love. But it doesn’t work that way. The more you give love away, the more you get.”

  • What fascinates me first of all is that this comes from a person I didn’t think would ever say something like this
  • I am not an expert on Warren Buffet but we all know the man knows about business
  • So, a quote about love is not really what I expected to see in combination with his name
  • And then he just doesn’t talk about love
  • He places love above everything
  • As the second richest man, Buffet admits – love cannot be bought
  • Love, in order to be received, has to be given
  • Love is a word we are often to afraid to use because we think it will somehow expose us, show how weak we are, make us vulnerable
  • But yet
    • deep inside, we all want love
    • We want to be loved
    • We want to feel accepted, cared for and safe
  • It doesn’t matter how independent we are
  • Its not about being taken of
  • Its about feeling at home with a person
  • And no matter how much of a loner we are, and I have met many, because I tend to be one to, we all enjoy the companionship of a person we feel connected to at a deeper level
  •
  • Love doeasnt come easy to us
  • We are worried about being hurt
  • We want to protect ourselves
  • We want to be loved first before we give away our love
  • And yet –
  • It works the other way
  • Love is a choice
  • It’s a choice we have to make every single day
  • It’s a choice that becomes difficult the more challenging life is
  • I talked about anger on my previous episode
  • Have you ever tried to be loving to a person that is angry with you?
  • Hard to do, because we want to protect ourselves so often we also get angry
  • I believe finding love is so tough because choosing love is equally tough
  • Meaning
  • When we don’t allow ourselves to feel love a bit more
  • To be more forgiving
  • To be kinder even when everyone around us isn’t
  • I believe then – when we show love – we are also more open to receive love
  • I love Rachel Brathen on IG – aka Yogagirl – and she expresses it this way:

Here is the key: Always choose love. Every time. That doesn’t mean that you’ll be avoiding difficulty for the rest of your life – it simply means that you’ve made the decision to let your heart guide you instead of your mind. Let feelings of insecurity be a sign to take a deep breath and become aware if what’s stirring within you. Listen to the nudges of irritation that you are overcome with from time to time. They are here to teach you great things! Every difficult moment is an opportunity for you to choose love over fear. Be grateful for the lows as much as you cherish the highs.
Move with love and love will move with you. Give love. Give all you got. You can never run out.

— Rachel Brathen@yoga_girl
